Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to Kindergarten! This is an exciting time for your child, although he/she may be a little apprehensive about going to "real" school. This is also a time of mixed emotions for parents---joy that your child is ready for school, but sadness because he/she is no longer a "baby"! Starting Kindergarten will mark one of the most important milestones in your child's life. I’m so glad I get to share that with you.
Be assured that I will do my best to make this school year an enjoyable time for your child, but also a time filled with real learning. The skills we practice daily in kindergarten are the building blocks for your child's future success in school and in life. I know if we all work together, we can make this a wonderful year for our scholars and help them reach each goal that is set for them.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as well. My name is DeShunta Ross, and I am one of the seven Kindergarten teachers here at College Park Elementary. This will be my seventh year of teaching. I graduated in 2010 from Ashford University with a Bachelor Degree in Social Science and specializing in Early Childhood Education. I received my Master's Degree in Education from Ashford University in the spring of 2012. I’ve wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember so this is my dream job! I love my job and hope to pass my love for learning on to my scholars. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Fulton County School District teaching staff.
I have five children. Jocques is 20 years old and studies musical engineering downtown Atlanta. Imani is 18 years old and she studies graphic design in college. DeShawn is 17 and a senior at Langston Hughes High school. KeShawna is 12 and attends Renaissance Middle school, and Jacquesia is 8. She attends Renaissance Elementary School. In my spare time, I enjoy Friday night football (High School), reading, shopping (uh oh), and spending time with my family and friends.
I am looking forward to getting to know all the scholars. I am sure that all of us will learn a lot in the upcoming months! I will send home information to keep you informed and up-to-date on what the scholars are doing in the classroom, as well as what you can do with your scholar at home to provide additional practice in certain areas. If you ever have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ross
